School Closes 24th May - Re-Opens Monday 10th June
Enjoy the rest of Ramdan and Happy Eid from everyone at Byron.
A MASSIVE congratulations to Ayana in 4W and Ashab in 6B who wrote a short story and entered it in to the Broughton all Children's Literature Festival!! This year there were an expected  40,000 entries, and both Ayana and Ashab came within the top 200! A fantastic achievement!
For being in the top 200 they each will have their story published in a book- wow!  They have also been invited to attend an awards ceremony where they will be presented with their published book and also find out who the overall winner of the competition is!
We could not be prouder of these fantastic and talented young writers, and we are thrilled to be able to say we  have published authors in the Byron Family!
Well done again to two very deserving winners!
Family Story Friday
On Friday 20th April, we held our first Family Story Friday! Fourteen families were invited to join the fun and our teachers just couldn't stay away! The hall was alive with the wonderful tale of Stick Man written by Julia Donaldson. We love reading at Byron Primary School and it was wonderful to see mums, dads, grandmas, grandads, big sisters, little brothers and even head teachers cosying up to enjoy a story together! We can't wait for the next one!
Wednesday the 7th March was Byron's World Book Day. The 'Beast from the East' scuppered our original plans for celebration, however in true Byron style we  returned back to school with a bang! Across school there were some truly PHENOMENAL efforts made by both children and staff. From Roald Dahl , to fairytale characters, to the more modern characters of David Walliams, or the topical costumes of the suffragettes.....the list goes on and on! Of course, days like book day would never be a success without the help from all the adults we have supporting our initiatives at home, and a big big THANK YOU goes out to all the family members at home for showing their support and helping the children-it honestly makes such a difference.
As well as dressing up for World Book Day and celebrating all the fantastic books surrounding us, there is also a WHOLE SCHOOL competition where individual classes are competing for the title of 'Best Book Door'. Each class has worked hard to transform their classroom door based upon the book they have explored on World Book Day. The competition has been judged by members of our fantastic school council and the results and final products will be revealed soon-WATCH THIS SPACE!
Ask your child about the wonderful things they have got up to on World Book day, and check out our twitter page @Byronprimarysch for more World Book Day fun!
For World Book Day the whole school took part in a competition to see which class could create the best book door. This was where the class focused on one book, and all work about that book was then displayed on their very own book door. The response from the adults and children has been immense! The doors around school are actually breath-taking and the children worked so hard with their teachers to transform their classroom doors. The doors have then been judged by our ever responsible school council, who scored each door against a given criteria. All the adults in school were thankful the school council had the important job of judging, as we just didn't feel like we could decide between them all-they are all that good! Safe to say our school council rose to the challenge, and winners have been chosen fairly. ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS TO FOLLOW.
Well done to everyone in school....the building really does look so inviting and creative, and it is so wonderful to walk around and see such high standards of work across school.
As one of our activities, to finish our World Book Day Celebrations, the whole school took part in a story time swap!
This was where teachers moved all around school and read a story to another class. So we had year 6 teachers reading to year 2, reception teachers reading to  year 4, year 5 teachers reading to year was a topsy turvy story time but WE LOVED IT!
Not only did the staff get to meet new children, but the children got to know staff in school they may be unfamiliar with or have not even seen before! This also provided the children with the experience of a different storytelling style than they may be used to, a new text they may not have read, and a lovely end to World Book Day! It was truly a special time in school and was enjoyed by all!
A huge THANK YOU to our children and their families who made our Scholastic book fair a huge success. We have purchased a huge £628 worth of new books for school!  We would also like to thank our linguistics team who organised the fair.
